This set of tips has been brought to you courtesy of one of my clients who has had email problems and asked for a checklist that they could use to work out some of the simpler ones. This page is a quick check list based on that. Like all technology problems they may be a real problem or one that lasts a few minutes. This way you can check some of the basic problem that arise.
Most of these steps will take you only a couple of minutes each to check. If the problem still hasn’t been resolved then it is time to call for help.
Internet Connection
Check that your internet connection is available and working by opening a browser.
Check your email settings
The email provider or your business will have specific settings for email accounts. Verify with them that the settings you are using are correct. There should also supply you with details on how to fix this.
Outlook Email Sizes
Check that there are no large file attachments >10 MB waiting to be sent. If you have files of this size then you should look at an alternative way of sending them. They can block everything else.
To delete large files click on File ->Work Offline
Delete all files in the Outbox
Click on File->Work Online
Reopen Outlook
Test Your Email
Web Mail
If you can use the internet to access your email try sending a mail from your email account to yourself.
Using Outlook
Open Outlook
Go to Tools->Account->Change Accounts
Click on Test Settings. Make a note of any error messages.
Check Your Quota
Most business email accounts have a fairly limited size. Find out from your email provider or network administrator what that is and how close you are to the limit.
